Although Jesus would have been able to understand the fullness of the Sovereignty of God, never the less this chapter reveals how human he was too, in his reaction to the death of his cousin John. As well as the loss of life there was the manner of his death, which was gruesome and wicked.
Truly you are the Son of God
Even the disciples lacked faith sometimes!

Matthew 13
"...I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world."
Jesus teaches on what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. Many of the parables talk of a coming judgement. God allows the righteous & the wicked to live together but there is a day coming...
He is a just God.

matthew 12
These verses challenged me: "on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned"
Makes you think about throw away comments we make. We need to be careful that we are meditating on Jesus first & foremost... "For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks."

Matthew 12
This caught my attention
He will not quarrel or cry out;
no one will hear his voice in the streets
When I first read it I thought, but it is well known that Jesus preached etc on the streets, and he must have been quite loud when he was teaching etc. But the gist of this pasage shows he was not unruly.
a bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not quench
What a comfort!

Matthew 11
Oh how we have to be careful we do not become proud in our wisdom and our understanding.
What joy! We will find REST for our souls!

Matthew 10
Thank God He knows us intimately!
Even the hairs on our head are numbered.
Its important that we remember how God takes care of the detail in our lives especially when this chapter talks about persecution. There always will be opposition to the Gospel but 'the one who endures to the end will be saved'.

Matthew 9
May we have the compassion that Jesus has for people. The description of 'harassed and helpless' is no different to people today. We can make a difference in others' lives because we have the living God is us.
Matthew 10
...Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.Our lives have to defined by Christ or it is no life at all.
Matthew 9
Would you rather be healed or have your sins forgiven?
Most people do not think about their need for the forgiveness of sins, sin isn't really that bad and they aren't accountable to their creeator.
But when you discover GOD, and how we relate to him, you would anwer in a split second... forgiveness of sins.

Matthew 8
In this chapter we see Jesus healing the sick by laying on of hands, by saying the word & its done immediately; having authority over the weather by calming a storm; casting out demons and setting people free.
All who came to Him were healed.
All who came to Him were healed.
Matthew 7
We will be recognised by our fruit...
The people were astonished because he spoke as one who had authority... because he did! He was God!

Matthew 6
There is so much packed into this chapter, it is full of such riches!
...do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing...
what a challenge!
You cannot serve God and money
a better translation of that word is mammon or posessions, basically we can not worship what we have rather than God.

Matthew 7
How can we do the will of the Father without really knowing Him?
Christ is our only real foundation in life so the more time we spend with Him & in the Word we will be strong and bear good fruit.

Matthew 5
Our `saltiness' is dependant on what is within, so that the consequence of that is shown without.

Matthew 6
We were made for relationship with God & He wants relationship with us. A personal relationship. May God give us the faith to believe that He is all we need & will provide for our every need.

Matthew 5
This is holy living and so foreign to our current culture where we are so aware of our rights. The more we look to Him & the more we submit to Him we will be like our heavenly Father.
Matthew 4
One of the first things Jesus does in His ministry is to call His disciples. They are ordinary men who are willing to follow their Saviour, to go from catching fish to catching men for Christ.

Matthew 4
O how the Bible can be misquoted!
The chapter seems to sum up how the devil and and the unGodly can twist and distort the truth. What an example Jesus gives of how to correctly interpret scripture.

Matthew 3
The thought that popped into myhead as I read this chapter was
The medium isn't the message.
John would easily be dismissed in our day and age as a hippy crack pot. Wearing the type of clothes he did and the food he ate!
Praise God he knew Jesus to be his Saviour and was not afraid to tell it!

Matthew 3
When John prepared the way for Jesus there was already a spiritual hunger in the people:
'People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.' John's message was clear & uncompromising. Also Jesus is described as a judge: 'His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor...' And yet in the same chapter there is the picture of a dove associated with Christ: pure & gentle.

Matthew 2
The Magi knew the Scripture to quote to Herod about the Christ to be born. In this chapter it states 4 prophecies from the Old Testament that have been fulfilled and 3 of them relating to the birth of Christ. It cannot be coincidence that so many documented prophecies were fulfilled at the birth of God's Son. How can a baby determine where he will be born? 'Bethlehem, ... out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.' God's plan for redemption was always there.
Matthew 2
I was really struck by how many times dreams were used to warn of Danger. Four times!
Also the brutality of Herod. When a child dies under the age of 2 in any village or town it is sad news and is talked about and mourned for. But ALL the children in a village or town being killed! Just tragic! How do we as Christians have a Biblical and God centred view on such suffering?

It is good to have the accountability in reading the Bible together & my prayer is that we grow deeper in the Word together. An ispired idea!
Matthew 1
At Christmas we are often reminded of Mary's story with the angel Gabriel but this chapter is somehow Joseph's, with the geneaolgy leading to him and Joseph's response to the dream. Just as Mary had grace to accept such a privilege to serve God in this way so had Joseph and his obedience to God is clear.

Immanuel - God with us.
I love reading the genealogy of Christ.
Some of the names POP out as people who seem familiar because their life stories can be read about in the OT.
Isn't it amazing how the Lord takes the imperfect and uses it for HIS Glory. Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Bathsheba, women with imperfect lives, sinned against and sinners themselves, all used in that amazing genealogy to bring the Son of God, our Saviour to earth.

WELCOME...
...to Bible Sisters.
Inspired my our dear husbands we've decided to start our own Bible reading blog.
So as not to overburden ourselves we've decided to go for an easier option of one New Testament chapter a day, starting today.
The idea is that we read it, and comment about it on here. And by doing it with someone else increases our accountability.
My prayer is that it will help us to read God's precious word more dilligently, and read it with the desire to hear God speak to us.
If you would like to join us on our journey please leave a comment.
